The Spin Off of Two Local Businesses – The Landing

The city welcomed a new addition to its thriving local business scene as Milltown Roasters and Radical Edge announced the opening of their new joint venture back in June 2022. Brian McKeown and Mike Davis, the owners of The Radical Edge, teamed up with the Martens family – Carl, Melodie, and Katie Martens, who own Mill Town Roasters, to establish The Landing.

Leveraging their wealth of experience in the bicycle and food industries, they united two renowned establishments in Fredericton to provide a distinctive and unparalleled customer experience.

As the new store is an extension of the Mill Town Roasters and Radical Edge, it is the first of its kind in the city. The Landing will attract a diverse crowd by offering outdoor gear, coffee, drinks and homemade treats.

Recognized for its fair-trade coffee and delicious pastries, Mill Town Roasters is part of the Coffee Mill, a longstanding institution in Fredericton serving the community since 1987. The new venture builds upon the success of both Mill Town Roasters and Radical Edge by adding a range of outdoor gear to their offerings. The store is now home to some of the most extensive outdoor gear and equipment names. The new range of products at the Landing will appeal to the outdoor enthusiasts in Fredericton, who now have a one-stop shop for their coffee and outdoor gear needs.

Similarly, Radical Edge, a local outdoor gear retailer, has served Frederictonians since 1995. The Landing has become an additional outdoor gear store in the city, providing the latest gear for outdoor activities, specializing in biking equipment.

The location of the Landing also makes it an ideal destination for those who enjoy biking. The store is conveniently located near the city’s network of bike paths, making it easy to bike to and from the store. After a long bike ride, customers can relax with a cold beer or coffee on the store’s outdoor patio and even get their bikes tuned up before heading back out on a long ride.

A commitment to sustainability is a prevalent topic within the coffee industry, and The Landing is no exception. This unique one-stop-shop builds off the Mill Town Roasters’ sustainability goal to build a strong relationship locally and globally. This involves working solely with a few importers and producers, fostering deeper personal connections. Additionally, environmental considerations inform sourcing decisions, with a preference for organic, fair trade, women-produced, and Rainforest Alliance-certified products whenever possible.

The Landing’s opening has been met with excitement and anticipation in the community. With free Wi-Fi, the Landing is an excellent place for students to study and for professionals looking for a change of scenery while they work. Providing the best coffee practices, great food, local beer, and excellent service, there is so much this coffee shop has to offer.
