Strange Adventures: Discover a New World in Downtown Fredericton

Fredericton, NB – You can jump into a new world at Strange Adventures, a comic book shop located in the heart of downtown Fredericton. At the shop, you can find comic books, games, and toys, all you need to bring is your imagination!

Manager Joel Benedict has only been with the store for a few years, but the shop itself has been around since 1992. Benedict believes that comic books are still as popular as they used to be.

“There is a bit of a generation gap, cause sometimes I’ve seen families in here, you know, you get the mother and the father and the kids. Sometimes the parents are more excited about the comics than the kids are, it depends on the child.”

The shop is lined with comics, from old editions to new releases. Even with the large variety, the two most popular comics are Batman and Spiderman. They are the most recognizable, regardless of age.

In addition to these two, X-men and SAGA are popular among customers.

While bins and shelves overflow with comics, the fun at Strange Adventures doesn’t stop there. They also sell board games, card games, source books and figurines for role-playing games, coloured dice, statues, toys, pins, buttons, and much more! There is something for everyone here.

When recommending comics, Benedict tells customers not to worry about branding if they find a comic book they really enjoy. He suggests paying attention to the creative team and following them, because you will likely enjoy other works of a good writer or artist.

Employee James Kirkland loves comics because of how immersive they are. He loves the storytelling and the world they pull you into.

“Regardless if you’re in love with the characters, or the writers, or whatever talent goes into making the comics, it’s the little piece of someone else’s imagination that you only get through reading it in the raw form.”

He believes that comic books are the medium that best highlights writing and creative talent.

“A picture says a thousand words, well comics have billions.”

The summer months when tourists visit the city are the busiest for the shop. Traffic through the store also increases on Wednesdays when new comics hit the stands.
