FREDERICTON- The St. Thomas Mental Health Society was founded this year. Recently, this team of activists organized a bake sale for all students. There was a combination of homemade and store-bought treats: brownies, cookies, rice-krispies, and more. Danielle England, a member of the STU Mental Health Society, played a significant role in organizing this event.

“We thought that it would be a really good idea because we know that it’s a really stressful time for most students. We thought it would be a good way for them to be able to treat themselves. We all came together to put it on and it’s by donation,” said England.

All members said that their goal was to give students a mental break in a tasty way.

Throughout the morning, members take turns restocking baked goods and collecting donations. The table was set up in Sir James Dunn Hall, from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Anyone within the STU community was able to come down, make a donation, and take a treat of their choice. An indivudal even donated a twenty dollar bill.

“We asked for a minimum of fifty-cents, but anything was accepted and appreciated. Our goal wasn’t the money, it was promoting mental health awareness,” said England.

Small events have taken place these past months. But, don’t worry if you’ve missed out. This group has big plans for the New Year, including guest speakers and campaigns.

This bake sale is only the start for the STU Mental Health Society. Make sure to keep up on their upcoming events by following their social media platforms.
