MODEL UNITED NATIONS
John Peters Humphrey United Nations (JPHMUN) simulation was held at St. Thomas University in Atlantic Canada, and was a huge success. Students from grades 11 and 12 from over 40 different schools, some of which were international schools, traveled to participate. These schools were located all over the world, including in the United States, China, and Europe.
The delegates were supposed to be provided with an intellectually engaging environment in which they could meet and build ties with their international peers in order to accomplish the aim of the simulation. Several groups met during this event, such as the WHO’s Commission on the Status of Women and the UN’s Security Council. High school pupils were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in foreign diplomacy through this simulation.
One delegate, Samantha brown remarked, “JPHMUN was a fantastic experience.” Meeting pupils from other schools was a wonderful experience from which students gained a wealth of knowledge about other nations and cultures. The simulation ran smoothly, and the discussions were interesting and enlightening. I hope to return to the event next year.
Another delegate Jimmy Banko said “JPHMUN gave me a fantastic chance to practice being an ambassador for my country.”
Staff members put in many hours of preparation to make sure the event went off without a hitch. Everything, from choosing the discussion subjects to arranging the venue, fell under their purview.
“We were thrilled with the turnout and the enthusiasm of the participants,” said Isabella Baralt, one of the event’s organizers and the Secretary general . The organizers goal was to offer an environment to the students in which they would be pushed to their limits and where they would have the opportunity to develop their potential as future leaders. According to what the secretary general said , it appeared as though they had achieved the targeted goal.
Overall, the JPHMUN simulation was a resoundingly successful endeavor. Participants were high school students from all around the world, brought together for the purpose of learning about and participating in international diplomacy. They were able to develop in ways that will serve them well later in life because they were able to connect with other kids.
