Retail Rush

We’ve welcomed the month of December this week, which means it’s officially the holiday season. That means flooded stores, busy restaurants, and stressed-out retail workers.

While this time of year is exciting for most, those working in shopping centres and restaurants have their work cut out for them.

Retail employee, Samantha Bryant says her workplace attempts to ease the pressure put on staff during this busy time:

“They do mentally prepare us a lot for the holidays with upcoming mental health- I know here they provided mental health resources during this time, as well as Christmas parties and contests to keep our spirits up during this time,” Bryant said.

Bryant speaks on her experience with working retail in the holiday season.

And when avid shoppers have checked off their lists, they can stop in to a restaurant and grab dinner.

“You get a mixture of people. Half of the people are like more happy because it’s the holiday time and they tip generously and are nice, and the other half can sometimes just be really stressed about the holidays and more rude than normal so it can be not fun in that way too,” said Huelin, a waitress and bartender at Boston Pizza.

Huelin describes the mixture of naughty and nice attitudes she gets from customers as a BP waitress during the holidays.

With Santa on the way, it’s important to remember that it’s not only the elves working hard this holiday season.

It is the busiest time of year in regards to shopping, dining, and delivery services, so please make sure to be patient, and spread holiday cheer to your local retail employees this season.
