Are you sad that the links are closed for the season? Think it’s too cold to practice your swing in your garage or driveway? Well, Top Shots Golf is the all-new indoor golf simulator in Saint John that brings friends and family together for a fun time while teeing off.

The new business made by friends Justin Corey, Andrew Beale, and Steve Vandenbroeck delivers 96 courses for beginners, or the pros who like to golf in the winter months. They built the business because there is no golf simulators in the area, so there’s a niche market for it.

“I really like this golf simulator place. I think it is so amazing, the graphics are unbelievable, it’s bright, and you really sometimes almost feel like you’re in a golf course,” avid golfer Lisa Mazerolle was impressed with the simulator.

Once you have your party, you can pick your names on the computer which feeds into the projector. A tutorial shows how to change your shot angle, change the lighting or weather, and look up stats from the round for all players.

The printer above the “green” projects the course onto the screen, and a sensor reads the golf ball once it is placed on the tee or green. The sensor measures the angle, power, and direction of the shot to deliver accurate results. Real time statistics on your swing helps players adjust for their next shot.

“I feel like if you came, and took a few lessons, it would really improve your game,” Mazerolle says.

For the non golfers out there, a table near the simulator allows for socializing, drinking, and relaxing. Soon, there will be appetizers available so everyone can grab a bite to eat. TV’s are around too if you’d like to watch sports that are on!

“It’s actually a lot of fun to watch all my gang here,” patron Tracey Somers details what she thought of the experience. “It’s kind of fun just to go as a group. Some are participating, some aren’t, but there’s opportunity to have a drink and just be social and have a night out.”

One cool advantage that Top Shots has is that they’re located next to the Mercedes-Benz dealership, so they’ve decided to generate some extra revenue by putting up a sign that reads, “Waiting for your car to be serviced? Come play a round while you wait.” Great marketing by the Top Shots team.

Since opening in October they’ve had many people coming in to play their games. With Christmas coming up, they’ve started selling t-shirts and gift cards to promote their brand. They also have a selection of golf accessories and premium golf balls for those interested.

Top Shots, where people go to fulfill their interactive golfing needs during those cold winter months. And if you’re not a golfer, sit down and have a drink.

Keaghan Keddy

Hey there, my name is Keaghan Keddy. I'm majoring in Journalism at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, and when I'm not there, I'm in Quispamsis, NB. Potentially after I graduate, I might move to a journalism hub like Toronto to immerse myself in the sports journalism culture. I like writing about sports, hockey in particular! I do not happen to know everything about every sport, but I am keen to learn and broaden my knowledge. A dream job of mine would be to work for TSN or Sportsnet in the sports media department. I like to hang out with my friends, whether that be on the PS4 or in real life, and watch hockey. My favorite team is the Ottawa Senators, (I know, it takes dedication.) Thanks for reading, have a great day!
