The LUG Mighty Ducks (White Jerseys) played their first game against the Lucky Pucks on October 24th, 2021. Many of the players on the Ducks have not played organized hockey in over a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, that we are currently dealing with, but the players are excited to be back out there on the ice playing as a team. For many of the players on the team, this is one of their ways to get out there to get exercise and as-well meet new friends.

The LUG Mighty Ducks did not start the game off strong. With only Three minutes into the game the Ducks are down by 3 goals, but that was not stopping them from competing. The Ducks hold the Lucky Pucks to 5 goals entering the second period. Entering the second period, the Ducks decide to pick it up by scoring 2 goals right off the puck drop, but the Lucky Pucks bounce back only a few moments later and return the 2 goals with 2 of their own. The Ducks finish off the second period by scoring one more making it a score of 7-3 in favour of the Lucky Pucks. Going into the start of the third the Ducks held of the scoring of the Lucky Pucks for a few minutes, but the Lucky Pucks manage to score three more, bringing their lead to 10. With a few minutes left in the game the Ducks manage to sneak one more in making the final score of the game 10-4. The Mighty Ducks will be looking to bounce back after this loss when they their next opponent in the upcoming week.

“Its nice to be out playing organized hockey again. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there hasn’t been much going on in terms of hockey, just pick up and even that has been on and off. So you don’t really get to form a relationship. So it’s nice to be able to do that again,” said Stephen Connolly.

When asked about how it felt getting hockey shut down due to Covid-19, Stephen responds with,

“It wasn’t even organized hockey, um shut down all of it, really sucked, it was something to look forward to on the weekend, especially Saturday night with the boys, and then they just strip it away from ya”.

With this only being the first game of the season, the Mighty Ducks are looking for a bounce back so they do not end up falling 0-2 in the league and risk being at the bottom. Many of the guys on the team are excited to be back out on the ice while also building a relationship with a lot of new faces on the team. The guys are hopping that nothing gets shut down due to Covid-19.
