Get those skates and winter coats ready to experience an icy adventure

On Friday, Feb 14th St. Thomas University’s Campus Ministry invited people to put on their ice skates downtown at Officer´s Square.

A new tradition has been filling the hearts of international students, since last year when they organized the first open skating event.

The perfect weather to have some fun on the ice, for families, friends, and couples the cold is not an excuse to make more memories.

STU Campus Ministry has been bringing together families, friends, and couples on the ice.

It’s giving a warm welcome to everyone who joins with treats and also extra pairs of skates for those who don’t have them

Everyone wants to have fun with their significant others. They all helped each other out with the skates and the right gear so everyone could enjoy the experience.

Dina Gallardo, a student at St. Thomas and amateur skater, came here for the first time.

Everyone is enjoying the ice, for some of them is their first experience on skates.

“This has been a fun experience so far, I’ve fallen many times, I feel like I’ve scream too much,” she said.

Ale Navas, Campus Ministry volunteer, and organizer warn everyone to be careful with the strong wind and slippery ice. For some of the people that join this was a new spot where they could hang out in future winters.

The skating experience demonstrates that even if the weather isn’t the best there are still fun activities that can become good memories.

Campus Ministry teamed up with the International Student Association and STU Mental Health program coordinators to make these small events for special occasions unique.

“We have like 25 people show up here today, they are having fun. For most of them, it’s their first time doing this, so it’s just really cool,” said Ale Navas.

Whether you’re looking for a skating experience some cool photos in the cold weather or memory with friends and family, the camp ministry offers a great experience and hopes more people join next year.
