Fredericton Ringette Team Wins Gold

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Fredericton ringette stars competed in Charlottetown’s 16th annual ringette tournament. The star warriors finished unbeaten and defeated Dieppe Impact for gold on Sunday afternoon.

The stars have been attending this tournament ever since it began.

All games took place in four arenas, including the Bell Aliant Centre, where the U12 star warriors won their first gold medal at this tournament.

“I was nervous, but I was also confident about this team, we haven’t played them before, so I was scared but I thought we were going to win,” said player Mackenzie Gullison.

The warriors fought hard in the semi-final game against Moncton, winning 4-3 in overtime.

The stars were down 4-1 in the final but came back 9-4 to take the title.

Head coach Peter Slipp said sticking to their game plan led them to a win.

“Our passing, kind of passing to open ice, making sure we play a strong defense, strong triangle when we kind of be aggressive and keep the other team away from our goalie.”

In addition to this team winning gold, all three under 10 Fredericton teams made it to the semi-finals.

The last time a Fredericton team won was four years ago.
