Unplugged: a place to connect with friends

Finding things to do during March break can be quite complicated to students who don’t own cars or who depend on the bus schedule for transportation. Unplugged: A Board Games Café, located in Queen St, downtown, can help solve the boredom some students face during the break.

Honoring the name, the establishment has no Wi-Fi, so clients can be unplugged from their phones and devices and enjoy a good time with their friends and families in real life. (Sofia Paura/STU Journalism)

Easily accessible, the café provides an environment people can enjoy with their families or friends.

The café allows people from all ages to come in and play a diversity of board games for five dollars.

The collection of games in the café is categorized by type of game, how many people can play, and 17+ games.

They also offer a menu of food and drinks, with appetizers, sandwiches, fries, dessert and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options. (Sofia Paura/STU Journalism)

With those features, Unplugged delivers its promise: it makes their clients forget about their virtual world and enjoy a nice time with their friends.

Clients can enjoy classical games, such as Clue and Monopoly, and modern games, like Catan and Dixit.

People can have fun by playing games which are related to a tv show or movie they like.

Unplugged has in its collection a game about the tv show “Friends,” for example, in which fans get to showcase their knowledge about the sitcom. (Sofia Paura/STU Journalism)

It is also possible to buy a few board games in the café.

Unplugged has a section labeled “Board Games for Sale,” which offers games clients might have played while visiting the establishment, and games the place does not offer clients to play while there, but that they can take home and enjoy later. (Sofia Paura/STU Journalism)
