Dr. Robin Whittaker is the artistic director for Theatre St. Thomas and the director of, A Life of Galileo. Dr. Whittaker is creating art in the Black Box so students can be able to reflect on life.

“These are the kind of shows that I’ve wanted to program in the Black Box. These are the Kind of shows that student are going to be interested in seeing. And then you know, hopefully they’ll see a show and kind of see the world a little bit differently, either because of a historical perspective they learned or a perspective of certain characters maybe that see the world differently then maybe we do. ”

Many may get their start with Theatre St. Thomas, but there are other avenues to take with a theatre career at STU. There is a Musical Theatre Program which trains students in acting, singing and dancing for the opportunity to be on stage. In addition, there is also St. Thomas Early English Drama Society, also known as STEEDS, which is the student run club that puts on early 17th and 18th century plays.

Bella Baldin is a third-year student as well as the president and director of STEEDS. She has been immersed in all aspects of theatre life at St. Thomas.

“It can be very diverse. We have Theatre St. Thomas, we have STEEDS, we have musical theatre and then any other classes like micro-performance this year, SIPP last year. So, I mean, there is a lot and there seems to be something for everyone.”

Bringing people together is what theatre does at STU and it is seen by the hundreds of students and other member of the community that come to see the shows and performances that St. Thomas has to offer.
