The Blogger is a Polarizing Figure, But He Doesn’t Care
Charles Leblanc who is known online as “The Blogger” has always gotten pushback for what he does but that will never make him stop.
Charles grew up in the small town of Memramcook, New Brunswick. He always wanted to be a journalist but his father told him he wasn’t smart enough. The thing is that he had undiagnosed ADHD which made it very hard for him to focus in school.
He eventually left school and biked around Canada and the United States until he finally settled down and started to work at the Saint John shipyard. After working there for nearly 15 years he was laid off alongside many others. This is when his uncle Al Leblanc approach him to get tested for ADHD and he was finally diagnosed.
Soon after Charles was hired by Irving. He worked there for a year but was never properly trained for the position he was hired for.
“They said that during the job interview since Charles Leblanc told us during the job interview he had ADHD and therefore he was on Ritalin therefore he was limited to what he could do,” said Leblanc.
This led Charles to come to Fredericton to protest. He set up a tent in front of the legislature and stayed there for six months.
He’s been in Fredericton ever since.
He’s always fought for what he believed was right. When he came to Fredericton people noticed him and eventually he was sent a computer and a camera to document his process.
Around 2006 he started his blog. He went through many battles with people and even the police. He’s had his blog shut down but he always came back.
Some of the stories he’s covered and successfully advocated for are getting more money for seniors on pensions and forcing the government to provide transportation for recently released prisoners.
Charles is currently covering heating costs and how they affect seniors and also creating changes around what is a service dog.
Although The Blogger has tried to fight for what is right he’s definitely ruffled some feathers along the way. He’s received countless hateful comments and people have questioned if what he does can even be called journalism.
David Coon stopped by and Charles decided to ask him what he thought of his work.
“Well, you’re practicing a kind of journalism, a blogger kind of journalism. Which is great. So you get at things that other Journalists don’t get at, you cover things that other journalists don’t pay attention to, and then you advocate,” said Local MLA David Coon.
No matter what anyone thinks of Charles Leblanc, good or bad, he will continue to fight for and cover things that he believes are important.
