Welcome To Whimsy: Fredericton’s Locally Owned Gift Shop

Fredericton, NB – A locally owned small business is thriving this holiday season with support from customers across the province. Fredericton New Brunswick’s Whimsy located on Main Street has just about everything you could need for the season’s festivities. Many looking for Christmas gifts this year have turned to Whimsy for their wide variety of handmade soaps, bath products, jewelry, hats and mittens, home decor, sweet treats, and custom art pieces. From young to old there’s the perfect gift for everyone.

It’s one of the only “all local” gift shops in Fredericton, offering products from within city limits and expanding the variety this year to all of the Maritimes. As a local business themselves, it sets them apart from competitors by only selling products from other small local businesses as well. Many looking to support local have been quick to hand over their bank cards once seeing the products offered in store. Bringing in hundreds of customers weekly, this has quickly become the business’s busiest time of the year. Shipments now arrive daily with restocking done as needed for the winter months.

One department more than others has been attracting the most customers this season. They have an extensive bath and body department with a variety of bath bombs, scrubs, soaps, cosmetics, skincare products, and candles. All reasonably priced and packaged with luxury wrapping. From quality to product presentation these items haven’t stayed on the shelves for long. The vibrant colors and unique designs have been attracting customers from inside and even outside of the city. Newly added are Christmas scents and colors. The most popular is the Candy Cane hand-crafted swirl bar.

With Christmas just around the corner, many specialty items have been added to the list of offerings. Hot Coco bombs, tree ornaments, stockings, hand-knit winter wear, Christmas scented soaps, Santa Claus figurines, jewelry, and much more.

Co-Owner Shelley Keddy has been preparing for the holidays over the last 5 months and feels her hard work has been paying off.

“It brings me great joy seeing my customers pick out the perfect gift for their loved ones, it takes a lot of work to run a business and supply products you hope people will love so it’s been a very rewarding time seeing this in action”.

Whimsy has recently gained popularity and attention from the media which attracted many new customers. From recent interviews with local journalists to an uptake in their social media presence, they have created a well-respected name for themselves in the city. They have continued building strong customer relationships over the last 9 years, providing new products for every occasion. This was good for business and with the steady stream of customers has been enough to keep the doors open throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shelley expresses her gratitude often but even more so this Christmas knowing how challenging the last few years have been for many customers and businesses.

“The Holiday season can be challenging for some businesses but we have been grateful for the overwhelming support from the city”.

They have already met their quota for the month of December and have two weeks left to bring in more sales. This has already been their most successful year since opening in 2013. These record-breaking numbers put them in a good position to expand and add new storefronts in 2022.

The future looks bright for Whimsy. With the new addition of products from outside of New Brunswick, support from the city, and proven success, this business is here to stay. The holidays have helped attract new customers and bring in the old. Spirits in the store are high, from customers and staff wishing all a safe and Happy Holiday.
