Toolbox Slideshows Construction Begins Once Again on the Mactaquac Dam October 4, 2021October 5, 2021 Avery Morton Avery Morton It’s construction season once again at the Mactaquac Hydroelectric dam. Constructed in 1967, flaws in the building of the dam soon arose. The concrete used in the construction of the dam began to expand and crack not long after its construction. Many area residents rely on the dam for use as a bridge across the Mactaquac headpond. During construction season, drivers will experience increased wait times at the temporary traffic lights installed. The province also relies on the dam to produce 20% of New Brunswick’s power There has not yet been a proposed solution to the problem of the dams failing construction. Residents hope that the changes to the dam won’t pose as large of a change to the landscape as its original construction did.
