Faith Comeau is a first-year St Thomas University student studying History.
Covid-19 restrictions have led to St Thomas University being entirely online, completely changing the experience for first-year students.
Comeau was previously in on-campus residence Vanier Hall but with restrictions on dormitories, she’s not even on campus.
The online format of class delivery has created an isolating experience for students, especially those who come from high schools outside of the Fredericton area.
Students are attempting to create a feeling of normalcy through group work and forum discussions but the isolating experience of online delivery persists.
Upon the announcement of the winter semester being online as well, students have concerns on whether or not the online format is sustainable.
This isolating university experience could result in serious ramifications on mental health, especially as we approach seasons of heightened depression.
Missing out on a normal university experience, Comeau is hopeful for Fall 2021.
