Tasting Atlantic Canada’s Best Craft Beer
Down East Brewing Awards took place last Thursday, where Big Spruce Brewing was the big winner of the night.
“When we first started back in 2013, we never thought we will get this far,” said Jeremy White, who owns Big Spruce Brewing.
“Before I opened Big Bruce, I was a home brewer for more than 15 years,” he said. “Me and my wife were just growing our own hop and brewing organic beer, so being recognized with this awards means a lot to us, ” he added.
Big Spruce Brewing is Atlantic Canada’s only organic, on-farm craft brewery and hop yard. Their brewery is located in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. They offer a sustainable cuisine and live music to enjoy while drinking the beer.
Expert brewers gathered at Picaroons Roundhouse to award the best of the best. Guests had the unique opportunity to try the best beers from the east coast for free. They didn’t hesitate on to taste more than one beer.
Picaroons Roundhouse has become a part of Fredericton’s culture since it opened in 2016. Every week, people of all ages go to the brewery to have a good time and enjoy a craft beer.
The day after the award ceremony, the Festival took place at the Fredericton Convention Centre.
Over 200 beers and ciders were sampled. Also over 60 breweries, cideries and a meadery were showcased. This made it the largest gathering of East Coast Beer ever!
The beer showcase on Friday and Saturday at the Convention Centre held approximately more than 2 800 people!
The festival ran from February 28th to March 8th and included a “Beer Olympics” at Picaroons Roundhouse and a “Trivia Night” at The James Joyce Pub.
