Jungle House opens their doors to Latin music

Jungle House is one of Fredericton’s dance studios that welcome a variety of people from different places, cultures and ethnicity to join and dance with them.

Brittany O`Sullivan, 29 is the Jungle House manager, “My partner and I meet for a four-hour conversation in a coffee date, where we talk about talked about everything from our backgrounds and sort of what we wanted to bring to the city and….. Jungle House was born,” she said.

“It was definitely challenging but we had each other to balance ideas and to motivate us to keep going.”

Pierina Rivas, a current reggaeton instructor at the academy teaches a short choreography every Saturday  from 12-2 pm.

“ I think the hardest part about teaching is showing confidence, to remember  every step and let the students have a good time, make sure they enjoy the class,”she said.

Rivas has been dancing since she was 12 years old, now she shares her passion at Jungle House.

The layout of every class comes with a quick warm up to get the body ready. Then it is followed by a set of steps so that everyone can learn the choreography. At first every step is marked with numbers and in slow motions but once everyone gets the hang of it the music starts playing and everyone just goes along with it.

“Our studio and business are driven by providing a space for people to connect. A space where people can feel empower, authentic and confident,” said O’Sullivan, “You don’t have to be focused on money to have a successful business.”

The official opening of Jungle House took place on September 1st.

For both of the owners the studio has been a success, by letting both owners continue to share their passion and also gave home to people who were looking for a place where they could get carried away by music.

Laughs are spontaneous and welcoming, everyone is having a great time.

O’Sullivan explains the mix dance styles they teach at the studio, “I teach hip-hop contemporary and jazz funk as well while my partner teaches jazz funk, dance hall and Heels.”

Also she says how Rivas got involved in her studio. “ She reached out to us, after showing us her dance moves we knew she was going to be a great instructor here in the academy by bringing something from her country.”

According to O’ Sullivan dancing is all about attitude, it takes self confidence to go out and just express yourself.
