Fredericton Ringette Tournament Boasts a Record of 70 Teams
FREDERICTON- The Fredericton Youth Ringette Association hosted another year of their tournament called The Early Bird Tournament. More than 1000 athletes participated, along with 70 teams and 130 games played throughout four arenas. The numbers keep increasing every year.
“I think first and foremost the organization of the tournament it’s huge for the kids that do get to come and participate and once you experience it once, you come back year after year,” said Brian Wall, head coach for the FYRA.
Teams from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia competed in the three-day event.
This competition is the first ringette kickoff of the season in the maritimes with an economic impact of over $650,000.
In between games players can shop at the ringette store, play the popular bottle cap game, take photos at the photo-booths, enjoy the players lounge, and more.
The teams are made up of mostly girls and age from under nine to under nineteen.
“This is my fifth year attending the tournament and my favourite thing about the tournament is being with my teammates”, said Mia Armstrong, a Fredericton U10 player.
Before every game and on the bench, players enjoy cheering loud to represent their team.
With another successful year, the tournament organizers are already planning for another big turnout next year.
