Straight Set Victory for UNB Reds

Excitement never fails to fill the bleachers at Richard Currie Sports Center.

The UNB Reds earned an impressive first win of the 2019-2020 men’s volleyball season on Friday, November 1st. The Reds won by 3-0 in a heated match against the Dalhousie Tigers.

The Tigers had a slim chance of winning the first set, but the Reds won by 25-22.

There was a heated competition with the Reds and Tigers going head to head.

“I think the Tigers are giving us a good competition, but we can definitely beat them,” says Paige Lehto, one of UNB’s female volleyball players who decided to stay and watch her male teammates after finishing up her team’s own game.

The crowd cheered on as the game became intense. Patrons watched intensely as the players continued to serve back and worth, each giving the other team a tough time.

The court grew anxious as the score for the second set was another 25-22. Each break taken by both teams lead to an increase in tension and motivation.

Connor McConnell, one of the Reds outside hitters, stated that, “I think we can take ’em down in the third set. As long as we focus, we’ll be alright.”

Fortunately, the UNB Reds won with a final 25-10, beating the Dalhousie Tigers and received their first official win of the season. The crowd cheered on as they scored. The players and their coaches celebrated.

“We definitely gave our all.” Eduardo Luchese, another outside hitter, boasts about their first win. “After weeks of training with our great coaches, it paid off. I’m so excited of the next game.”
