STU loses 65-5 to UNB
UNB started off strong with 3 tries in the first 10 minutes of the game however the high winds made the making the conversions difficult.
UNB, by halftime, had three injuries, Caleb Pounds, Ron Llena, and Billy Hornaday which staggered their momentum.
This allowed STU to answered back with a try just off a line out.
The new player to the UNB team Grayson St-Laurent, made his debut as a starting A side player and came out of the game with three tries. However, Grayson did receive a yellow card for an illegal stiff-arm fend.
UNB suffered a few more injuries with Matt White sustaining a dislocated shoulder. STU also had a substantial injury with one of their players receiving a concussion.
“In rugby it’s surprisingly a more controlled environment and, although people are constantly hitting each other, I haven’t been hurt nearly as bad. I’m used to the muscle soreness but the hitting and bruises are new,” said Phillip Schwenteck, former soccer player.
“A player from UNB broke through so I needed to hold him up or tackle him. But I didn’t tackle him properly so when he fell he landed on my head,” said Schwenteck. “The referee didn’t want to let me continue the game because it was a head injury.”
UNB throughout the game were able to find their way into the STU endzone resulting in their victory at 65-5.
