Archives UNBSU and STUSU Team up for Don’t Cut Our Future Rally September 30, 2019October 12, 2020 Peter Jewett On Thursday, September 27, students from UNB and STU gathered for the Don’t Cut Our Future rally to protest against high tuition costs in NB. The rally took place on the Quad, in front of the UNB Student Union Building. Craig Fernandez, President of the UNB Student Union, and Chelsey Lapointe, UNB student, were among those attending the rally. Those in attendance learned some clever chants to use during the rally. Students then walked downtown, to the Legislative building to protest rising tuition rates. Fernandez, and Ailish Mackenzie-Foley, the Vice-President of Education for the STU Student Union, delivered speeches for the provincial government. Several local MLAs were in attendance, including Fredericton North MLA Stephen Horsman (right). In total, 15-25 students participated in the rally in some capacity.
