Stringing ‘pour’ decisions together

East Coast Art Party held its first ever Wine String Art Party at Unplugged: A Board Games Cafe on Tuesday, March 12.

Do not worry, no ‘pour’ decisions were made at the party. The all-female party painted their designs on wood and then laid out nails and string to make a complete image. The pieces took about two and a half hours to make.

Kimberly Makortoff guides the women on how to lay their string.

“It is a way for wives to get away from their husbands,” said Kimberly Makortoff, the operator and owner of East Coast Art Party Fredericton.

East Coast Art Party is a company who hosts Art Parties throughout the Maritimes. Kim is their licensed instructor for Fredericton. She organizes the events by finding places to host, gathering supplies, and advertising. Kim reached out to Unplugged to host the party.

Anne Marie Coady, 59, finishes painting her board.

Business owners can choose from a variety of art activities to have at their parties, however, many businesses choose painting, but Makortoff likes to switch it up.

First layer of the string is complete.

“We’re always looking for new, new things to do,” Makortoff said.

Kim traces the letters on the board and nails the holes into the boards before the party to help guide the participants in creating the art.

Emme Swan holds shows off her almost complete board.

“We try and keep it relatively simple, you don’t want anything too complicated or too hard for people, although it is amazing what you can teach them,” Macortoff said.

Four complete Wine String Art Boards

East Coast Art party is based in PEI and owned by Len and Jeff who expanded the business all over the Maritimes. In the fall and winter months, Makortoff will hold about five to eight art parties while in the slower summer months she hosts about four.  Makortoff believes it is great for the community because it gives people a chance to do art and promotes local businesses.

“This is good for local businesses,” said Ann Marie Coady, a participant, “especially for new businesses,” Makortoff added.
