Frostival and Fredkid warm families with movies

Fredkid and Frostival organized a movie display in the Sainte-Anne Community Centre.

With winter, it can be hard for families to find activities to take their children to. Thinking about this, Fredkid, an organization that connects families with resources, events and activities, partnered with Frostival to trow a day of movie sessions everyone could attended for free.

The movie was Toy Story 3, which is about the toys being accidentally donated to a day care, and racing to go home to reunite with their owner.

For the occasion, Fredkid decorated the theatre with things related to the movie, such as balloons resembling aliens, prompts to take pictures, and a wall decorated with flags. Children and their families took pictures and had fun with the items before and after the movie display.

Also, two volunteers went dressed as the main characters, Woody and Buzz. The volunteers say they had the idea of going as the characters after they dressed in the same way for Halloween and their friends commented on how similar and “cool” the costumes were.

Alyssa Guitar, one of the volunteers, says it was really rewarding being able to help.

“Toy Story is one of my favorite movies as well when I was a kid, so dressing up and sharing with other kids now is really exciting.”

Two sessions of the movie were shown, one in French and one in English, and it counted with food such as Rice Krispies, juice boxes, and fruit snacks, all a dollar each.

A lot of people showed up to enjoy a nice movie afternoon. Everyone seemed to have had a lot of fun, and enjoy their time together as a community.

Brittany McKeal, another volunteer, says it feels good to be involved with events like this.

“It’s, hm, it’s a really fun event to do, and it’s lovely to put on like a free movie for families and it’s a really fun to dress up and make it themed and put everything all out like this.”

The movie seemed to have had a positive impact on the community. Families and children were able to have fun, and stay warm, during a cold winter afternoon.
