McAdam Railway Hotel

The McAdam Railway Station is the only station that is a museum

McAdam New Brunswick is known for its historic railway way station. The station has been around since the 1900s. Back in the 1950s on the second floor of the station used to be a hotel. Today, the current owners are trying to re-open the hotel.

Gail Swan is one of the tour guides at the station. “There are major issues with having a hotel on the second floor. It changes our whole aspect of what were doing right now which is probably okay, were open as a tourist information centre and as a museum.

Gail Swan would like to see the hotel re-open

To become a hotel the second floor would need renovation from scratch. Plumbing, heating, and lights would need to be installed. Floor, walls, and rooms would need to bere-done. Swan says that it is a huge financial cost. 12 to 14 million dollars would cost for the station to become a hotel.

The construction of the station began in 1900 and finished in 1901. At one point in time, it was one of the most used stations in New Brunswick. About 16 passenger trains would cross through McAdam daily.

The main lobby of the station has been re-done

The station is closed to the public from November to May but during the summer months the railway is opened and tour guides are ready to show the station to the public.
