Christmas Market

Christmas is just around the corner and the people of Fredericton have already started shopping. Luckily, the annual Christmas Market opened on December 2nd and it will keep going for the next two Sundays. It’s one of the oldest markets in Fredericton.(The Boyce Farmers Market is the most popular market in Fredericton)

People of all ages, young or old are welcomed at the market. Vendors have a little bit of everything for everyone. Every Sunday, different vendors will come. It’s an opportunity for small businesses who are just starting out. For some it’s the first time at the market. Others have been attending for years.(Customers checking out what the vendors have to show)

Some vendors brought their own craft and even demonstrated to people how they made them. Some people bought them for Christmas presents. Others just wanted to see how they do it. Vendors want to show people that what they do is not fake and that it is well done.(Some of the vendors have been coming to the market for years)

This was the first market for some vendors, including Hugh MacEachern. He asks people of their last name and then he finds out about their backgrounds. He brings this to the market to show something different that people might not see elsewhere. His work was “the history of your last name.” MacEachern and his wife took turns running the booth.

“It is a great event to showcase your product and I will be back next year,” said MacEachern.

MacEachern wants to go further with his products and this was a chance to see if people are going to enjoy what he does. MacEachern wants to expand his business through Facebook.(Hugh MacEachern sharing art work with the world)

Crafts weren’t the only items at the market. Other people brought homemade baking good such as cookies, brownies, bread and even fruit cake. The market is for everyone and vendors can bring anything they want to the table. Others brought homemade jams and many more goodies.(Delicious homemade goodies tempted visitors)

Markets bring people together. In a city so small such as Fredericton with only 58-thousand people, markets are a great way to show the beauty of a community.

Fredericton has other markets like the Northside Market, Boyce Farmers Market, and the Garrison Night Market during the summer.

Other people brought homemade jewelry. Of all the booths in the market the jewelry items were the most popular.(The homemade jewelry booth was the most popular at the market)

Other vendors brought paintings. Jim Middleton is a local painter who has gone to other’s markets around town such as the Garrison Night Market during the summer but at the Christmas Market he wants to sell his art work especially now around the holidays. Some paintings are of local famous buildings around the Fredericton area.

(Paintings were another big part of the Christmas market)

Other people stitched homemade toys for children with their favorite cartoon characters and some brought their own necklaces made out of rocks.

(The children loved seeing all the toys at the market)(The Christmas Market lasts three Sundays in a row and crafts are being sold fast)

The last day for the Sunday Christmas Market is December 16. So, if you haven’t had time to visit there is still time to go. It will back next year to continue its run as Fredericton’s oldest still market.(The market is about bringing people together, both customers and vendors)
