Marijuana legalized in New Brunswick
FREDERICTON- All over the Maritimes a new business has opened its doors. That business is cannabis.
Local weed connoisseurs have been in heaven and have been trying out the various products.
In the Fredericton/Oromocto area they sold over 950,000 in product over the first two weeks. The stores are currently low on product and some arrests have already been made for driving under the influence. Frequent weed consumer Shamus Fillmore foresees problems with the legislation.
“I wouldn’t say the bare minimum they don’t know as much as they should and they don’t promote the negative affects of marijuana”.
On the other hand weed was been predominately dominated by the black market. It has been illegal since it was smoked in movies but that has not stopped people from partaking. The hope of Cannabis NB is to eliminate the sales of criminals. Creighton Fillmore, a Rexton New Brunswick native does not see his small village following that trend.
“I know where I live that’s what they do they sell their stuff and there’s only one Cannabis N.B store in my area so a lot of people will stick to going to their same guy”.
Smoking weed is legal and more people will continue to do so. The RCMP will needs to try and regulate the sales of the non government grown cannabis. This may be hard to do with previous growers having the ability to grow tow plants legally. Halifax RCMP Jason Hill says the goal is to keep the profits out of criminals pockets.
“The goal is to control the production, distribution and keeping the profits out of the hands of criminals. The true belief of the RCMP is that Cannabis N.B. will eliminate many outside growers”.
The police will now need to face this challenge head on. Over the course of time we will see if Jason Hill and the RCMP will achieve their goal.
