Hounds on the Hunt for Regionals.
Saint John Highs women’s hockey team have been pretty successful the first half of their season.
Their current record is 12 wins, 2 losses and 0 ties.
Now entering the second half of the season, the hounds are on the hunt for two things.
The Southern Conference Champions title. Which they have claimed the past three seasons. And they are also looking for a spot in regionals, which they have also gone to the past three seasons.
However the past three seasons they’ve never gone to provincials, but this year they’re hoping to change that.
So the heat is on for the Hounds to take home more wins the second half of the season.
Assistant Coach Bruce Latham talked about the Hounds season so far, and what they have to do this second half.
“Our team has performed fairly well in the first half of our season. Going into the second half we have to keep up the same mentality,” said Latham.
The coaching staff for the Hounds is head coach, Bob Martin, and assistant coaches Bruce Latham and Sheldon Estabrooks.
“Hard work and execution is the key to our team,” noted Latham.
There are 10 graduating players on the team. So this is their last season to wear the SJHS jersey and represent at regionals, (possibly provincials).
“The first half of the season went really good. It took a while for us to click but once we clicked we’re good now,” said graduate and goaltender Claire Arsenault.
“This year a lot of us were new. So we had to figure out how to play with each other, opposed to some of the girls that have been playing all throughout high school,” mentioned forward and graduate Giselle Richard.
The Hounds are looking to be on their way to playoffs, where they’ll be taking on their arch rival the St. Malachys Saints.
If the Hounds beat the Saints in playoffs, they’ll be off to regionals once again, and hopefully soon after, off to provincials.
